A company hired by the state Department of Transportation faces up to 180-thousand dollars in fines from federal workplace safety officials.
Brunalli Construction of Southington was replacing a bridge carrying Route 7 over the Housatonic River between Canaan and Salisbury.
OSHA spokesman Ted Fitzgerald says there were two types of safety violations found on the site, one being fall hazards.
"The employees were working without fall protection, on unprotected or inadequately guarded sections of the bridge," Fitzgerald said. "This left them open to the possibility of falls of up to 43-feet into the river below."To read the rest of the story click on the link below.
